Announcements

The cyclone that recently struck Myanmar reminds us how brutally extreme weather events can devastate a country. Westminster sent a mission group to southern Mississippi in June 2006 as a follow-up to Hurricane Katrina. This Thursday, May 15 at 6 p.m. in the church library, we will have the first session of a two-week study on the topic of “New Orleans: Why Should We Still Care?” Should we take action again? If so, what? How should we respond to disasters that are on the other side of the world? Study materials prepared by The Thoughtful Christian are available on the tables at the rear of the sanctuary. Please make your reservation with Allan Tedrow at 371-8765 or Nancy Sokil in the church office. Coffee and juice will be provided. Feel free to bring a sandwich supper. The meetings will adjourn in time for choir practice.

Next Schuyler Inn Party on Sunday, May 18: The coordinator will be Carol Tomlin from Zonta. See Lois Wilson or call the Church office if you can help. Volunteers are really needed, including people who can arrive about 1 p.m. to help with party set-up.

Schuyler Inn Closet: We are seeking a Westminster coordinator to work during May and June with Linda Mitchell. Immediate needs include toothpaste, tooth brushes, shampoo, lotion, and women’s personal products. See the box in the Small Meeting Room and list on Chestnut Street bulletin board.

2008 Flowers: Flowers can be given as a memorial or in celebration of a special event. You may donate either one vase or both vases. Cost for both vases is $60 or one vase for $30. If you are interested please sign up on the chart in the Welles Room or call the church office.

FOCUS Interfaith Food Pantry: During the month of May Westminster is asked to donate razors. They may be left in the bin located in the Chestnut Street hallway.

Ushers: Please return any usher tags that you may have taken home inadvertently. Thank you.

On Sunday, June 1, at 4 p.m., the Westminster Church Choir will close its singing season with a concert entitled “Handel in the Afternoon.” Works to be performed will include Handel’s Sing Unto the Lord and his Foundling Hospital Anthem (which closes with the Hallelujah Chorus!). The choir will be accompanied by a chamber ensemble of strings and winds, and Sue Fedak will conduct. Soloists will include sopranos Nancy Holroyd and Martha Reisner, alto Kelly Bird, and tenor Jim Cronen; Al Fedak will be the soloist in one of Handel’s Organ Concertos. It should be a delightful afternoon: plan to attend and bring guests!
