Westminster Organ Carols Online

Dec 10, 2020

Unfortunately, the current COVID-19 situation has caused Westminster Church to cancel our live, in-person Christmas Vespers service called A CAROL NATIVITY, which was scheduled to be presented on the evening of December 17. However, in its place, Al Fedak, our church’s Minister of Music and Arts, has recorded a 25-minute program of Christmas music for the congregation to enjoy online. The program consists of twelve familiar Christmas carols arranged for organ by Al Fedak himself. The pieces are drawn from three of his published organ collections: AN ADVENT/CHRISTMAS SUITE (1991), A COLLECTION OF HYMNS (1996), and A RING OF CAROLS (2017), all composed during Al’s tenure at Westminster. Also, the broadcast will include the first performance of Al’s newest work for harpsichord. Titled “Carol, with Riffs,” the work was commissioned by organist/harpsichordist Scott Hyslop for St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Inspired by the music of Mannheim Steamroller, the piece is a freewheeling setting of the French carol, “Angels We Have Heard on High.” The entire program was recorded by Al at home, on his harpsichord and three-manual house organ. All are encouraged to tune in, experience this joyful celebration of holiday music, and share the link with friends and family throughout the season. Click here to view the event program
